Intimate Engagement Photography in Somerset

Posted in: Couples Sessions

Chloé and Dom got engaged in August 2022 at Plymouth Harbour during their national fireworks display. They are getting married at the stunning Crowcombe Court in Somerset this summer. As a bridesmaid I won’t be photographing the wedding, but I had the honour of doing their engagement photoshoot in Taunton. They requested an autumnal session in the woods. After considering various potential locations we decided on Wych Lodge in Taunton. The woods provided a beautiful colourful backdrop.

Settling the photoshoot nerves

Chloé and Dom are not fans of being in front of the camera and were nervous about knowing what to do. They told me that they wanted natural and authentic images, so we started off with some simple prompts. We started with them walking together hand in hand and chatting, this enabled them to just settle into being photographed. We did a few loops of walking towards and away from me before adding in some dancing.

Once they got dancing and doing what I like to call drunk-walking they started to relax and giggle together. Dancing also enabled them to practice some moves for their wedding day and the first dance. Once they felt comfortable we moved more into the woods. Chloé and Dom started coming up with their own ideas including practicing some lifts for their dance. Then I just started capturing them having some intimate moments dreaming of and discussing their plans.

Why should you have an engagement photoshoot?

Why should you have an engagement session?

I love capturing engagement and couple’s photos regardless of whether the couple have hired me as their wedding photographer or not. Getting in front of the camera prior to your wedding day serves many purposes and as such I highly recommend having one! It can be a good way of doing a trial run with your photographer to make sure you vibe with them, after all you are going to spend a lot of your wedding day with them so it’s important to get along! It also enables you to settle some nerves about having your photo taken, by the time your couple’s shots come along on the wedding day you’ll be a pro in front of the camera. You can also use your engagement photos for your wedding invitations, wedding website or even in your décor such as your seating plan or table decorations.
